In most cases we will be able to schedule you for your initial consultation within 2 weeks of you calling our office. 

We do not require you have a referral, but you may need to get one based on your insurance. You will need to call your insurance to see if they require a referral to see a specialist.

No. Lovell Hand and Orthopedic Center is an independent private practice and we are not affiliated to a particular hospital system. Dr. Lovell is the chief of the hand surgery division for Spectrum Health. If you need a surgery that we are unable to perform in the office, Dr. Lovell performs surgery at Grand Valley Surgical Center, Spectrum Health Lake Drive Surgery Center, and Spectrum Health Blodgett.

You will need to get all of your records faxed to our office for Dr. Lovell to review prior to scheduling an appointment. These can be sent to (616) 655-1571. If you have had any imaging done outside of a Spectrum Health facility, we will need the images on a CD. These can be mailed or dropped off to our office.

If your pain and discomfort is hindering your daily activities or keeping you up at night, then it is time to make an appointment with Dr. Lovell or Crystal. We are happy to see you for a consultation to discuss surgical and non-surgical options. We always want to treat our patients in the most effective and least invasive manner.

You should receive an email with a link to our patient portal. Please go online and complete all of this information prior to your first appointment. This will save you a lot of time in our office. Make sure to bring in your insurance card and a photo ID when you arrive the day of your appointment, and any applicable copay will also be collected at this time.

After 18 gratifying years of caring for and operating on orthopedic conditions of the knee and the hip, Dr. Lovell has made the difficult decision to focus on the upper extremity. As of March of 2022, we will no longer evaluate nor operate on hips and knees.
